Kona Coffee

Kona coffee, or "Hawaiian Kona Coffee" is a very popular beverage among those who appreciate exquisite coffee tastes.

This particular type of coffee is quite unique in that it is carefully cultivated on the tropical slopes of Mauna Loa and the Mount of Hualalai in Hawaii.

This particular type of coffee is actually considered to be among the most sought after – not only in Hawaii, but also in the world!

This is because Kona Coffee can only be deemed as pure and exquisite when grown in the actual district of Kona in Hawaii. In addition to being this popular, it is also quite expensive.

Why Is Kona Coffee Unique?

Kona is a unique type of coffee for many different reasons.

Kona Coffee Bean Tree

First, the coffee is cultivated on the slopes of two popular volcanoes in the Kona district. These are the volcanoes of Mauna Loa and Hualalai. The fact that the natives of this area have been able to grow coffee on slopes that are created with lava rock from these volcanoes is amazing! The farmers that cultivate this particular type of coffee have done so for many generations. Special care and consideration is taken when this type of coffee is grown.

It is not just about growing; this coffee is cared for in a way that upholds the tradition and craft of Hawaii.

Kona Coffee Processing

Hawaiian Kona Coffee is cultivated in an exquisite and special manner. The coffee beans that are selected to be a part of this particular type of coffee are hand picked and inspected to ensure a high level of quality. When selecting the beans to use with this coffee type, the individuals that are responsible for doing so make certain that each one is fully ripe and that the tree that they grow on is not damaged and exhibits a clean bill of health.

This area experiences a lot of rainfall and due to the different levels of elevation, it has been discovered that the coffee ripens at various times. However, from the month of August to the month of April, most cultivation is performed with Hawaiian Kona Coffee. Immediately after the Kona Coffee beans have been picked, there is a method that is used to process them. This processing involves using a method that removes the outer layer of the beans in order to expose the core of the beans.

The overall color and appearance is inspected to ensure that the beans are fresh. Once the beans are approved here, they are sent into what is called a cherry pulper. This is basically a wet system that processes the beans that are used to create the coffee. This particular processing type of the Kona Coffee has allowed cultivators to use less energy and less water in order to create the exquisite tastes associated with Hawaiian Kona Coffee.

Roasting Kona Coffee

When it comes to Kona Coffee, roasting is one of the unique characteristics that intensify the particular flavor. The seeds are placed in a foil bag that protects them from damage once they are out of the cultivation and processing stage. They are then roasted in a way that air and moisture is not permitted to enter into the bags.

When the coffee is sent out to stores and individuals who purchase it, it is still in the bag that it was originally roasted from – and within days of being roasted. This is one reason why the taste of the Kona Coffee is so popular. The taste that is created by careful cultivation, inspection, and roasting is like no other type of coffee available today!

Hawaiian Kona Coffee Grades

Many do not realize it, but there are specific qualifications in order for that coffee to be sold. This qualification is done by many different types of tests and evaluations.

There are, to date, five different Hawaiian Kona Coffee Grades that you may choose from when purchasing this type of coffee.

    -  The top grade is referred to as Extra Fancy.
    -  Then, there is an immediate grade of Fancy.
    -  Immediately thereafter, you have the option of Number 1.
    -  Next, there is Peaberry.
    -  Last, there is Prime.

If you want to experience a high quality, carefully cultivated coffee, then you should explore the options offered by Hawaiian Kona Coffee. Once you try Kona Coffee and enjoy the deep, enriching flavor and exquisite aroma, you may be spoiled permanently! There are many unique distributors for Kona Coffee, but when you order it make certain that it is grown in the Kona District of Hawaii.
