Cuban CoffeeThere are essentially many people all over the world that love a good cup of Cuban coffee. Although this coffee is a type of espresso that was first introduced as a drink in Cuba, Cuban espresso became a popular drink when the first espresso machines were brought to Cuba from Italy. Basically this Cuban espresso drink is a "shot" sweetened with sugar as part of the process while being brewed. It is served in gourmet coffee shops all over the world. Some consumers claim that the Cuban espresso is a bit stronger in taste than gourmet coffees or other types of coffee, while other consumers who love the rich tasting coffee insist there is more caffeine in the drink. These variations can all be due to the preparation of the Cuban coffee as well as the amount of consumption. When the Cuban espresso is prepared, the raw sugar is normally placed into the coffee grounds with the hot water in the espresso machine. By doing this, the result is a strong coffee flavor without having to add sugar after it is served. This allows for a smoother type of coffee taste as well. Some individuals know the Cuban espresso as café cabano or perhaps the Cuban shot.
There are additional names for the coffee depending on what area or part of the world you are in. In addition, a layer of espumita on the top of the drink can be present when it is served. There are misconceptions that this is obtained during the preparation. The misconception is that a small amount of chocolate is added. The truth of the matter is that if the Cuban espresso is made correctly and in a good espresso machine, the layer will form. Cuban coffee can also be prepared on a stove; however using an espresso machine brings better results. In all fairness, this is how the misconception about the espmuita began. When Cuban espresso is prepared on a stove the top layer result can be accomplished by adding sugar to the first drops of espresso that creates a creamy paste. Therefore, when the rest of the espresso is added the creamy paste will appear at the top. Sometimes the beverage is served with a cup of steamed or hot milk. And, another form of the Cuban coffee being consumed is when an individual uses the hot cup of milk and essentially pours the Cuban espresso into the milk. Some experts claim that a large amount of Cuban coffee is stimulating. This is due to the caffeine of course. When the coffee is normally served it is not served in a large coffee cup. In fact, the name "shot" was derived for the drink due to the strength of the Cuban coffee and its effects. There are some restaurants that will serve a glass of water to dilute the strength of the Cuban espresso for better digestion. However, for those pure coffee drinkers it is fine just like it is served. For coffee drinkers who simply "just love" coffee because it is a stimulant, if not decaffeinated, then the Cuban espresso is often their first choice in a coffee shop. Cuban coffee or Cuban espresso is known specifically as the "social" drink. It is somewhat of a ritual that is intended to be shared with family or friends, another of the many Cuban traditions that is associated with the Cuban coffee. This coffee is considered by many consumers and coffee drinkers to be reasonably priced. In fact, in many of the coffee shops and coffee cafes’ the Cuban espresso is the least expensive on the menu for coffee drinks. Many coffee shops have windows in which an individual or customer can literally order a cup of Cuban coffee. However, don’t be surprised or intimidated if another customer strikes up a conversation while you are waiting on your coffee. It is simply associated with the drink! This is considered a high quality form of coffee to many individuals. In recent studies done on various forms of coffee, the Cuban espresso was ranked as being served just as often as other coffee variations. In various parts of the world, the Cuban coffee was actually served on a continual basis and more than other coffee. You should take into consideration that in different areas or regions one type of coffee is going to be in demand more than in another area. However, according to these studies the Cuban coffee maintained a consistent selling average in all areas. |
