Exploring the Potential of Coffee Addiction

Many individuals around the world are exploring the potential of coffee addiction. Medical professionals, coffee manufacturers, and scientists have been studying the concept of coffee addiction for some time.

In their studies, they have concluded that individuals do not develop an addiction toward coffee itself, but the actual caffeine that is used to enhance the overall effects of coffee. While it is true that there are many different “perks” to consuming coffee on a daily basis, it is essential that you be made aware of the fact that this type of beverage can result in more than just your pick me up.

Let's explore the concept of coffee addiction due to caffeine.

The True Coffee Addiction

The true coffee addiction is the addiction to the caffeine that is contained in the coffee. Many do not realize just how common it is to be addicted to caffeine. I mean, how many people do you know that do not drink coffee, carbonated beverages, and eat chocolate?

I personally do not know of many. The body of an individual that consumes caffeine will often become dependent on the substance in order to function properly. This is one of the main symptoms of the true coffee addiction.

Symptoms of Caffeine Addiction

The symptoms of caffeine addiction most commonly occur when an individual has not been able to consume this ingredient. However, there are some symptoms that may occur prior to a sudden withdrawal.

Below I've outlined some of the symptoms that you may experience when this occurs.

   1. When an addiction to caffeine is present, many will find that they suffer from mild to severe headaches. In many cases these headaches can become debilitating. These headaches are present both in withdrawal and while consuming the substance.

   2. Many may come to the experience of mental complications such as not being able to communicate effectively, concentration problems, memory issues and even severe mood swings.

   3. Muscle pain throughout the body is relatively common when it comes to consuming and craving this substance.

   4. It is not uncommon to experience an extreme amount of fatigue when this issue is present.

   5. Gastrointestinal complications are relatively common when it comes to caffeine addiction. This may include vomiting, diarrhea, and even the development of ulcers.

What Is Caffeine?

Caffeine is actually considered to be an “alkaloid”. This substance affects the central nervous system by stimulating it. This substance is not monitored or regulated, and is used in a number of products.

You may have used this substance to kill pests, such as insects, that consume it and then become over stimulated. You can locate this substance in coffee, tea, sodas, and other beverages and foods.

This substance actually works to encourage the flow of blood through the body and expand the vessels that the blood runs through in order to make this possible. Individuals who fail to consume caffeine that are used to this substance may suffer from a withdrawal.

What Does Caffeine Do To The Body?

Many things naturally occur when an individual consumes coffee that has caffeine in it. It aims directly for the central nervous system. Once here, certain hormones are triggered and set into motion.

These are often referred to as “stress hormones” by medical professionals. This is why when you consume coffee you may feel as if you are a bit more alert to the things around you. Many do not realize, however, that this substance actually changes the natural homeostasis or “balance” in the body.

Coffee addiction is a disorder that many suffer from. However, ultimately, it is just a basic addiction to caffeine that is the issue. Many devastating symptoms can occur when an individual is addicted to this type of substance. Furthermore, if an addict does not receive their quick coffee fix, or caffeine fix, they may suffer from the complications of withdrawal.
